RPM reads at 4000 always

Well recently my rpm gague reads 4000 all the time. The engine is not ideling any diffrent than before. The only new thing is a squeal or constant squeak, comming from the water pump area. Anyways the rpm is the issue, maybe there is a sensor for this somewhere, Please help. Thanks

I'd guess its a fautly tach.

mine did the same thing. it really started getting annoying. i went and got an aftermarket one it was like 50 bucks and it works great. but if you dont want to do that then the tach its self should just pull out of the dash board and i can just about guarintee you that it is just the tach itself. just go and take it to your local dealer. or if you want i can get a price for you. i work at a ford dealership in alaska.
