This is what I came up with.

For 0" of lift, these are the shocks you need:

Front
RS5229
Specs
Compressed 13.6"
Extended 18.1"
Travel 4.5"
Top Mount - S42
Bottom Mount - XP4

Rear
RS5185
Specs
Compressed 16.0"
Extended 26.3"
Travel 10.3"
Top Mount - XP7
Bottom Mount - L1

So for 2" of lift would these work??:
Front
RS5255
Specs
Compressed 15.75"
Extended 26.5"
Travel 10.75"
Top Mount - S42
Bottom Mount - XP4

Rear (Could only find a RS9000)
RS9275
Specs
Compressed 19.0"
Extended 32.25"
Travel 13.25"
Top Mount - XP7
Bottom Mount - L1

I'm just trying to stay away from the shock relocation mounts (if I can). Or does anyone have the for sure part numbers?

Thanks!

Look at the numbers: you'd have to extend your bumpstops or risk bottoming out on the shock. This isn't a big deal though.

In the front you'd probably be ok (I didn't have to extend my front bumpstops). But in the rear you'll need to either get longer ones or put large washers in there as spacers. I did both and it works well. Takes about 5 minutes.

do what now? this is the info i NEED! please explain Alec or take some pics.

The rear bumpstops are basically a piece of hard rubber with a bolt coming out. This bolt goes through a hole in the frame and thus the bumpstop is held on with a nut on the other side. Ranger X had some junkyard bumpstops from an old p/u and I used those cause the rubber is 1" longer. For an additional 1/2", I took some large washers and put them on the bolt between the frame and bumpstop. This spaces the bumpstop out more from the frame so the axle contacts it sooner and my shocks don't bottom out.

maybe this'll help

I will crawl under mine tonight and see if there are numbers on them, but when I ordered mine from 4wheelparts, I just told them that I had a '99 with 2" of lift and they sent me a set for the front and the back and they work perfect... I didn't have to modify my bump stops at all...

just got a e-mail from Rancho and this is what they said:

Dear David,
Thank you for your interest in Rancho products. Part number RS5185 fits
the rear of the Explorer with stock suspension up to 2 inches of lift.
You're setup shouldn't require any additional modifications to the shocks
or mounts. We don't offer any parts to extend the shocks, if a longer
length is required we would use a longer shock.

if this is correct i'll go by there word. if not i'll go w/ the guys on the forum word to get these shocks fitted right. i just e-mailed them asking if the RS9275 would fit in the rear. when i get a reply i'll post it here.

ok just got off the phone w/ Rancho tech support and they told me to go w/ the RS 5185 for the rear and RS5229 for the front. I asked about the RS9275 and they said it would fit but it would bottom out sooner and have a higher risk of ripping the shock mount off the car. They said that RS5185 would bottom out w/ hard useage but it was protection from that.

tonight i'll try to go out and get me a set of RS5185 shocks!!!! later on the front ones will be replaced.

Just bought my new Rancho shocks for the rear from Summit Racing for $81 shipped to my door. I'll post when i get them in.

Glad i got the correct ones. the front ones will come later.

now...

How about some shocks for a 7.5" all suspension lift for a 95-97 explorer? I need to find some shocks with more travel before I install my 7.5 inch suspension lift.
(4.5" TT, 3" spindles. SOA w/add-a-leafs)

drw, just call Rancho and ask them.

I think you're out of luck if you want Ranchos. Theres a very limited number of their shocks that have the same top and bottom (and same cobination) mounts. I don't think they make anything longer than the ones I listed at the very top of this thread.
