Found this on Sam's web page. Looks like a lot of Fun. Sam's rig has been featured in more than a couple of mags. Clayton is an excellent area to do trails. They offer everything from stocker trails to 6+ rated Extreme trails.
I have already RSVP'd for this. Hopefully some more Explorers will join from the surrounding area.

Time to bring it up again!

After reading about all the fun in Ouray, anyone want to attend another big run in the Southeast Oklahoma area? Usually have big turn outs and trails for all experiance levels. Stockers to trailer queeens will have a blast here.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Anyone else?

Just as a point of reference, Clayton is about 2 1/2 hours north of Plano Texas, off of Hwy 75. Lake Sardis is very close and is where we usually meet. Good camping spot. Sam's link has excellant maps and sleeping accomaodations.

So what about the other "Local" guys? Kris, need to test your conversion? Kuben ( sp? ) can you come out and play?

Any board members in Oklahoma? Kansas? Arkansas? Louisiana?
This is a great chance to run at a big event for next to nothing cost wise. FWD-FWD out of Dallas charges $75 bucks or more to run these very same trails and they get over 300 vehicles from all over the country to thier event.

Anyway, good time, great cause, cheap price. I would love to have some more Explorers show and make a dent in the event.

Thanks Rob

You know Stocky is always up for some wheeling!
<breaks into song> Go Stocky, Go Stocky, go go.
But I promised my friend I would go to Corpus with her that weekend. And I really don't want to break that off.
Next time!
<song fades> Go Stocky, go go.

News update ..
I am attempting now to convince her to come and go to the coast the week after.
Where are you guys staying? And what days will you be there?

To the Top!

Only 1 week til the Clayton Run.

I'm looking forward to seeing Sam's jeep in person. He attends all the big Rock Crawling events and does very well.
Last count he had about 80K in his old CJ. Tha's right 80K and that's not counting labor since he owns the shop. He was featured during the summer months in one of the jeep mags.

Anyway, should be a real blast with tons of people attending. Clayton is a lot like Moab in Oklahoma, there's something for everyone to run, from stock to extreme.

Sad News.....

It looks like Clayton may be off. I just heard that the corperation that owns most ( 70% ) of the land where the current trails are located has sold the land or sale pending etc. It appears the the EPA will also become involved since this area is used to harves lumber. No hunting, horses, or 4x4 vehicles allowed in most area's.

Sam's is still planning on having this event, but it looks like it will be on 2 rated trails only. Non of the exciting stuff. I have sent an e-mail to Sam's and will call them in the A.M. for more information. We may have just lost a premier location :(

For now my plans are on hold.

Thanks Rob

I called them earlier today, and they said yaa its on, I told him that I had heard some news about it being called off, he said he didnt know anything about that.

Response from Sam

Here is the response from Sam.

We went to clayton this past weekend and didn't have any problems getting
to the trails. As far as extreme trails are concerned were planning to do
floyds and maybe yanish. You will need to plan on buying a permit for each
person. Please keep in mind that 90% of the rigs that will be showing up are
stock to moderate 4x4's so were really not focusing a lot on extreme trails.
sams offroad

The permits are $25 per person.

I will not attend this weekend run, since I didn't plan on the extra $100.

I will stay in McKinney and get my bumpers finished. and maybe some stuff around the house.

Slabs are still be worked into the schedule somehow.....Maybe on the 14th?
