SAS Question

The ultimate D44 to run would be from a 78-79 F150 as they are high pinion so it's as strong(gear strength) as a D60 without the weight and size but you would have to cut that axle down.
WooHoo! Finally something I can disagree with. :D

Of all the Ford HPs, the '78-'79 Ford 1/2 Ton D44 is the worst choice, unless you were planning on running stock coil locations, which you aren't. The 78/79 uses an inner and outer axle tube held together by a cast "<o>" bracket. ANY other Ford HP D44 would be a better option as far as strength goes. The 78/79 is a convenient package because they already come with discs, but any of the other years can be converted.

Well Im just gonna pull a D44 out of a Wagoneer. Does the 84 model wagoneer come with flat top knuckles?

Thanks Robb! I'm always in a state of education.

No they don't but I'm researching now to find the best solution for steering. If anybody else has some great ideas please share.

The waggy is a LP but not a big deal.
