I recently bought a 06 Explorer XLS and it has the basic single disc radio with MP3. I was wondering if it has satellite radio capabilities and how I would hook it up.

KJD - Congrats on your new purchase. Mine has Sirius, I just push the AUX button and it comes on. They dealer gives you 6 months free. If you have it and its not activated you should still hear the advertisements by pressing the AUX button. I you don't get that then you going to have to get the Sirius add-on (will require removing the head unit).

When I hit the Aux Button it says that their is not Aux Input...so I am guessing that I will need to get the satellite add on. Is that right? Does anyone know were I can get the add on?

I think the easiest thing to do is to call the dealer. Get as much information as you can from them, such as price, part number, and what's involved in installing it. Sometimes, something simple as knowing what it is really called can help you search for the the part. Also, someone on this board discovered that the Audiophile stereo is really an OEM part from some other company, Pioneer I think. Look around and you should find who makes it and the model number. That way, you can order from the manufacturer and possibly get a better deal that you would get from Ford. There will probably be lots of Audiophile stero parts on eBay as people upgrade their units. Maybe you can find it there as well.

Have you had any luck finding out any information? I am in the same boat. bought an 06 explorer that did not have the sirius box installed. Any help would be appreciated.

I understand the stock hu is an Audiophile but I have also heard it's an off-brand of a pioneer radio. Can anyone verify this?

Hey guys, before you put your money into a Sirius also look into XM. Personally I prefer XM to sirius. I had Sirius in my 2004 Mountaineer and hated it. XM has far better programming and a lot more channels. That and the fact that Howard Stern is bleeding Sirius to death because of what they have to pay him, I have heard rumors that XM may make a bid to buy out Sirius in the future. XM makes a direct fit kit that will work on your stereo heads. It is called XM Direct for Ford XMDFOR100. You can get it from Crutchfield or www.myradiostore.us Prices range from 99.00 to 129.00

I have had XM many for years. The programming was okay at first then they shut down some of my favorite channels. During the last year I had it, I didn't listen to it at all. When I traded in my old car for the new one with Sirius, I left the XM receiver in it. Also, I hear that Sirius is gaining new subscribers faster than XM and will soon overtake them. I will never go back to XM again! I guess everyone has their own opinion.

I love my XM!!

Only wish mine head unit had the SAT button for the fit kit... :fire:

Yea, I don't see XM buying Siruis anytime soon. Sirius has more new subscribers than XM for 4 straight quarters. Anyways though, I digress.. Any idea how I can get Sirius to play through my stock hu?

The XM direct does not work with the 06 Explorer. I had 2 of them from Terk thinking the first one was broken, Terk finally said it wouldn't work, different format or something. Really wish it would work....

I have a 2006 also. Just talked to Sirius because I have a a factory installed antenna on the roof and wondered about satellite radio. I gave them my VIN # and I do have Sirius. But when I push the AUX button it reads no auxilliary audio. The tech guy with Sirius says yes I do have Sirius, in fact 3 months free, has never been activated. He didn't know why the Aux button read no auxilliary - any help?

If you have the factory antenna on your roof then you have Sirius. The Sirius module is mounted behind the passenger kick panel which is easy to get to. Check to see if someone removed the module or just unplugged the harness from it.

Thanks for the reply. I finally got my car dealer to look at it after I told him I knew it had or at one time had the module and told him I was not paying $600.00 for the tuner. They had a tech look and yep, "you got it." But it will not work. They don't understand why it does not work but the radio works. Is that because the module has been unhooked from the harness. Tell me how to fix. I am suppose to take to the dealer on Tuesday for them to pull the radio.

So you do have the module, and is the harness and antenna hooked up to it?
If so the other end of the harness plugs into the back of the radio and you will have to pull the radio to check it. You may have a bad Sirius module. Will they warrant that for you?

I have an 05 Explorer WITH the SAT button. If I push it, it says "NO SAT". Does that mean I don't have the Satellite Radio module?

How much does it cost to add that?
