I have a 94 XLT 4X4, the a/c compressor bearings froze up and the belt broke. I repaired the problem and now the timing won't advance. I have no power. Any ideas on how to fix this? I read the Chiltons manual and fell asleep. I can't find how to correct or check the system

I've never heard of a computer controlled vehicle not advancing the timing...

There is a shorting plug that if removed will pull the timing back some. This is done when you get really bad gas and have detonation issues. It does rob power but it won't keep it from advancing the timing.

Its a Gray (mine is gray) plug on the passenger side. I found it near the EEC-IV connector.

How do you know

the timing is not advancing, checked with a light? or does it idle but runs worse at higher RPM's?

The timing was checked with a light. It appears to be correct at idle but does not move at higher rpms. I believe that this is reason for the loss of power at higher rpms. At idle it runs fine. I thought that perhaps a wire was broken or loosened when the belt broke, but I don't know where to look.

No expert on 94's, but don't you have a crank position sensor on the front of the engine? I think they have to have a specific air gap to work. Did it get whacked when the belt broke?
