Alrighty, here is a question. Are there any Black Leather seats that i can buy from a used/totalled car that will fit in a '96 Explorer XLT? Also when i turn on my 4X4 and turn left my axle or somewhere in the front starts to make a thunking sound has anyone else had this problem and what could/is it? Sorry for the long post!

ok, first of all that thunking noise is your wheels. When youre in 4x4 you cant turn on dry pavement like that in 4wd. Second about the seats, any leather seats can fit if you have access to a welder. I dont know of any black leather for your year, for a direct fit that wouldnt be under 500 bucks.

I can weld but i wanted direct fit. And im not stupid i know you cant turn on dry pavement, i turned in snow, mud, everything else and it made the noice. Its not a good noice and i need to fix it b4 something really goes wrong.

Just to clarify, on a '95 & '96 the only mode you can't use on pavement is 4x4 Low. They do not have a locking High mode so you can use 4x4 Auto as well as the normal 2WD mode on pavement. He Pipin Yoda didn't specify whether or not he was in Low or Auto. Many people call their Auto mode 4x4.

4wd Auto

I am in 4wd Auto. So anyone have this problem too? Or know what it could be

In 4x4 Auto it should not make that noise, even on pavement. That is the default mode starting in '97 when Ford did away with the 2WD mode. I have seen failure modes on the '95 & '96 Explorers where the system locks into a 4x4 High mode. Usually on a '97 or later it locks into a 2WD mode when the system detects a failure. Are your 4x4 lights flashing? If not then it might be a CV joint, ball joint or wheel bearing. Since you said it happened in 4x4 though, I suspect it is transfer case related since if it was one of the problems I listed it would show up in 2WD also. It sounds like your front wheels are engaging when they shouldn't be.

mine was doing that and my auto hub was blown (or in the process of blowing) luckly mine is a 94 so I threw some manuals on there

I would say luckier for Pipin Yoda that he doesn't have hubs at all :) (his wheels have a direct connection to the front differential via CV joints).
