Setting timing on 2003 Explorer without the Special Tools

Thank you for accepting my registration. I replaced the front tensioner and the chain guide of the Jackshaft without disturbing any sprocket. After completion, the truck would only attempt to start then go off almost immediately. I guess something was not right with the Timing. How do I get it timed without the special tools. Moreso, the accessories like Alternator etc were not installed while I was making the attempts to start the truck.

You either build your own special tools, or you don't time it. Those are your 2 options. have a look at street rod 2000's guide. He went about building his own tools.
