Shift lever on 1997 Explorer

Anyone know how to replace the shift lever on a 1997 Explorer XLT? It has not broken off, yet, but the plastic knob at the end is cracked and being held on, right now, by sheer will. I have opened the clamshell that covers the steering column, but I am not sure how to best continue. I want to replace the whole lever. I can pick up the part at a local dealer , but if anybody knows who else sells the part for less, I would appreciate it.

i should have one of those. they are held in by a pin in the column that you just have to hammer out.

Shift Lever

I took the clamshell off and I see the pin that you are talking about. It looks like an easy fix. Thanks for the info.
