Should I put fuel injection cleaner in a sitting tank?

i was given a 97 explorer xlt 4wd that has been sitting 3+ years.im trying to change the fuel filter(nitemare) but was wondering if i put injection cleaner in the tank if it will clear the gunk factor.any ideas?thanks,k.

Sta-bil is better. you might want to check my spelling. we had a motorcycle that wouldnt quite get up and go and after a winter with that in its fuel it miraculously came to life the next spring.
 












If it's been sitting with fuel in it for three years you need to drain the tank.

Who knows what kind of settlement and other junk is in the bottom of the tank.
You are guaranteed clog injectors when the pump sucks it up. The filter will only stop so much crap
 






it was completely empty.my brother ran it dry.i put a 2 gallon jug of gas into it.it started 2x,then wouldnt turn over again.so should i drain the tank again?then add gas and cleaner?im changing out the filter,and im sure the pump is probly jammed..
