I went to a MIDAS today to get an estimate on installation of flowmaster and new piping. I asked to have it exit in front of the rear passenger tire on my 98 Sport and he said that is illegal and it can't be done. Please explain why. He said somethign about how the pipe would be too short and something about fumes. I was sort of pissed. Any replies appreciated. Thanks.

I've been told in the past that federal law states that the exhaust must exit the vehicle behind the rear axle or the furthest passenger door, which ever is the shortest distance.

Yeah, the exhaust has to exit behind the passenger area. It's the law. The carbon monoxide from the exhaust fumes can kill you. Be glad he wouldn't do it.

Here in the great state of Texas:D the exhaust must exit behind the passenger compartment. This is why many pick-up trucks have their exhaust exiting in front of their rear tires.

So that means I can't do it, huh? It would basically come out about a foot behind the passenger door. Thanks for the input guys.

It would have to comeout behind the passenger compartment. And since the whole vehicle is the passenger compartment it has to come out the back. Or out the side by the very back

And as a side note. Your signature should be no longer than 6 lines. I believe that GJarrett will cut it back to 6 lines for you when he finds it if you dont.

Just out of curiosity, what are they charging you for the new piping and muffler?

Midas said approximately $230 for labor, new pipes and a raven muffler actually. I heard they have power gains more than flowmaster. Tip seperately.

hornz2000,
What model Raven are you getting?
Please give us an update on how well it does. I have been thinking about getting one myself, and it's always nice to get the opinions of others before you buy.
