Sigh...Air Conditioner, Yea or Nay???

Well, after living without the air conditioner my 1994 explorer for about 2 years, I am thinking about getting it fixed for this upcoming summer's heat as sort of my "winter" project. However I am still debating the pro's and cons.

First the Facts:
I live in Northwestern New Mexico, where the hottest month is august, and the average high is prob 90 and the coldest month is feb where the average high is 32-38.

Pro's
Sweet cool air
No more rollin down the windows for air which is already hot and doesn't make the vehicle much cooler

Con's
Money
Money
Money

What do you think?

I wouldm't want to go a day w/o AC, I say fix it - but I live in Florida.

well, try to estimate the cost before you dismiss the whole thing.

personally, i cant live without air conditioning, so if i had to max out my credit cards and sell some internal organs to have AC in my vehicle, you better believe id do it ;) (i live in about the same climate, though it can get up to 100 here in the summer and can go as low 0 in the winter.)

I don't care if I am driving on bare rims runnin' on just two cylenders, as long as that sucker is blowin' cold I am happy.

( Okay, not exactaly but you get the drift )

Better to have it and be glad you did, than to not and wish you did.

should his 94 have the new freon?

Yes, 94s have 134-a. I believe the change happened in the mid 93s.

I'd say try and get it fixed. Do you have any idea what all the bad parts are? Maybe you could source some of the parts on your own, hook them up, then take it in for servicing.
I ran my mustang for 4 years here in HOT Del Rio, Tx. Lack of AC is one reason I got the Explorer. I guess as I get older (41) I am getting more sensitive to such things. It was not too bad for a good while, but the last year or so I found my temperment was getting bad! I found myself more and more grouchy, especially showing up to work dripping in sweat. This Explorer has made me a different person...really! I miss the high performance and all, but heck, I am comfortable now!!! Try and fix it.

Does Northwest New Mexico have that "Dry Heat" I hear about so much from people out that way?

I say fix it if you have the means. Here in Alabama it is pretty much a necessity during the summer.

Yeah, I've heard people refer to it as "dry heat". Considering we don't have much humidity out here,I guess that is what you can call it.
