- 2005 Explorer Eddie Bauer
Hey guys,
Glad to be here. Last week my 2005 Eddie Bauer Explorer, with the 4.6L V8 started to knock on my way home from work. Oil wasn't even showing on the dipstick, took 4.5 quarts. Needless to say, the next day, the knock was so bad, I parked her. And no, it hasn't been smoking, and I have yet to locate a leak. Poor maintenance on my end, but it is what it is.
I took it to my mechanic, and they are looking for a replacement engine but have only found engines that are $2,500+ (I might as well by a reman), or one out of Virginia for $1,200, but it has 150k miles, my truck only has 120k as it sits, so no way. I was told to expect about $1,500 in labor.
Long story short, I decided to look into a 5.4L swap, which brings me here.
