Slight burning smell when in 4WD

Since we finally have some winter weather here in the North east Ive been running the ex in 4wd for two days straight and when I stop and get out it smells like something is burning. Kinda like if you were riding the breaks for a long time. Now since I got the ex three years ago non of the drivetrain fluids have been touched. I was thinking that maybe something is getting hot from not being properly lubed.

Any thoughts?

Since it only happens in 4x4 I would say check the fluid in the front diff. But if it's been 3 years I'd go ahead and drain and refill all fluids: both diffs, tranny, and transfer case.

Do you carry a fire extinguisher in your truck? They are a really cheap really smart investment. Especially if you're getting burning smells
