slight disagreement, i wanted to slow down, the explorer didnt.

Just when i thought i had fixed most of my problems, the exploder strikes back. Driving home from the airport tonight, i was cruising along at sixty five with the cruise control on, and then i tried to slow down to get off on my exit. The explorer and i had a slight disagreement about this, everytime i put on the brakes, it sped up, at one point it down shifted and was running about 3500 rpms while i had the brakes on. I had to pull off on the shoulder and turn the ignition off to get the thing to stop. Now i know newer models have cruise control problems, but is the CC on older (ie 94) models known to have problems?? Thanks for any help you all can give.

did you try to cut the cruise off at the button? the reason i ask is the brake pedal sensor broke in my '94, so the cruise would not disengage with the brake pedal. also the brake lights wouldnt come on, so thats an easy way to check.
