Sloppy Shifting

Hey guys, I just bought my 02 XLT 4.0L Explorer, and I've noticed that the shifting is very lax to the point that if I keep my foot on it going up a hill, it red lines before it shifts. It takes a full second between shifts give or take. Is this common, and is it serious? When going up a hill, the motor will rev because its not shifting fast enough. Is there a fix for this?

Welcome to this forum! How many miles does it have? Did you ever replace the fluid & filter? Is the fluid level low?

It has 99k on it, and it has been babied. Fluid is full and it should be good.

What color is the fluid? The 5R55W solenoid blocks tend to act up around 60K miles.

no clue, its in the shop right now. Getting both front barings replaced and a window reg. lol but lets say its pretty nasty, should changing the fluid help?

I cant say that it will help but it will not hurt. when you get the truck back check the fluid and if it's dirty replace it. You should be changing it every 30K miles.
