Think about the sound a school bus makes. Meet my Explorer. So 0-40 is painful to achieve with my 2005 Explorer 4.0. I lovingly named my truck the bus lol. At low speeds it sounds like its in overdrive. My boyfriend purchased my truck on my behalf and completely missed that feature. I heard a d felt it when I first drove. So far things I’ve done and observed:

No codes.
Gas mileage is decent.
No weird noises other than the loud overdrive sound the engine makes.
Only things that were toast were the blower motor & blend door actuator at which I repaired.
Did an oil change.
New air filter.
Royal Purple Max Atomizer.

So now I’m here because I been a Bronco girl my whole life. So where do I start? I over heard the ignition coil, sparks and wires should be changed. Being that no one wants to replace parts that arent broken how do and what do I check?

Thanks in advanced xoxo

Are you sure the transmission is functioning properly? It sounds like you're not taking off in 1st gear.

Try manually shifting and see if there it a difference to help determine if this is a transmission issue or engine issue.

I had a sluggish acceleration too when i bought my explorer. The solenoid pack was bad (no CEL light but O/D was on) (the wire connector corrodet and the female plug of the solenoid pack was bad too so i had to replace both). At my explorer the a/c water drips on the plug to the solenoid pack, idk if that is normal... So the symptom of a bad solenoid pack is that you only have 3rd gear and reverse. It might be that your solenoid pack is just gunked up, balvebody gunked up or anything else. I hope my answer helps.
