smoking badly at high manifold vacum

91 ex xlt mega miles. smoking badly when at idle or decelerating,under power not so bad, im thinking maybe modulator cuz it smoking worst when turning left. can i disconect the modulator and see if it still smokes. what else would it be?

i dont want to get another smoke notice from carb!

Don't mean to hijack your thread but I have similiar issue I have a 93 4.0l it seems that after truck is warm and (I turn it off ) then when I restart engine still being warm it smokes bad like white smoke ! (head gasket?) but then it goes away ! ( I'm confused gonna check plugs ! Any ideas? Greatly appreciated!

Smoking from the tail pipe, smoking off the motor? Is it gas smelling, white smoke, blue smoke -- more details will yield better responses.

mine is white smoke from tailpipe only when engine is warm! Smoke goes away after acceleration I had similiar problems before and found that I had a bad sparkplug thought I had fixed problem but the smoke has come back! It has a rough idle when it is blowing white smoke ! ?????

yea mine is doin similar things, it will not smoke when accellerating but will when you let of the throttle or at high manifold vacum.maybe intake gaskets/headgaskets?also there is no comression on 3rd cylinder on drivers side. which brings us to head gaskets.this is the best info that i have right now.

ya my 2 plugs on the passenger side! one plug looks like its getting to hot it had burnt the points right off the new plug causing it to run like **** I put a set of old plugs in that I had lying around ! It runs a bit better still smoking Hella ! Not losing water ! No water in my oil! Fml off ta work hope it gets me there! Will trouble shoot more when I get home!

After replacing head and exhaust gaskets, 90 ranger 4.0. started to get blue smoke. runs smooth. but the injectors are louder than before the work. Sugestions any one?
