Welcome to the site.. If you believe that Explorers have a high rollover rate due to their design then your way off.. Its not the design but the person behind the wheel who doesn't know how to react to certain conditions. People often forget that SUV has a high center of gravity compared to sedan. Things that will help with any body roll or any other adverse conditions can be found on this site..

ANY IDIOT CAN PILOT A CAR

it takes a person with some brainpower to actually DRIVE

the explorer as compared to otehr suvs arent that bad with rollovers.....

My 2nd gen Explorer feels more stable on highway turns compared to my wife's Rav4 and that's before I lowered it and added the EE sway bars.

The main reason your friend probably tows so many rolled Explorers is that there ARE so many Explorers. For example; If there's twice as many X's on the road than any other SUV than it would be acceptable to have twice as many rollovers while still maintaining the same percentage of rollovers to sales. Anybody know total sales figures for X's or all SUV's since 91?

The problem with Explorers being prone to roll overs is their popularity. Something like over a million sold. Like it or not an explorer is a truck. That means that it has to be driven like a truck. That means lower speed, no abrupt steering manuvers, no agressive driving, additional braking distances, ect.. So when a large number of car mentality people drive a truck like a car, there are going to be problems. The higher the center of gravity of any vehicle the more likely it is to roll over. The more people who drive vehicles with a higher center of gravity the more often the vehicles will roll over. In summary, if you are going to show the judgement to safely operate a vehicle with a higher center of gravity then a roll over is unlikely.

what Im use to

I use to drive a 94 dodge deisil (sp sorry) and It handled turns and curvs wonderfully. my ex handles like crap compared to it- i dont' know maby i need new springs or somthing but I dont like this feeling on the corners. if this is a simple issue im just learning please forgive me.

I own a Jeep and have never rolled it, but I have rolled an acura legend. So, with that said, depending on what kind of stuped stuff your doing, you can roll anything. I feel that the handleing of my Explorer is above average for comperable SUV's, with the exception of the Isuzu Rodeo. That thing handles like a car. I hope that helps.

dodge, how many mile you have on your X? Is it a 4x4? I think if we post some good pics of off cambers he may change his mind. The reason the X's rolled many years ago was the tire pressure. The recommend psi was incorrect. Browse around and try searching, there is a ton of info here. And welcome to the site.

Solid as a rock

I used to own a Bronco II (bought it rolled)...talk about rollover stories. I slid it sideways into the median of I-435 in Kansas City once at 45mph. The result was on two wheels for a second and dirt and grass between the beauty ring and the wheels on the pass side I also had it off camber a few times with no adverse results. The explorer I am driving now feels a lot more stable than that thing was. The key is, raise your tire pressure running down the road. I run load range C tires (b/c I pull a trailer) at about 42 psi, and if you are offroad, just run in low range and creap over stuff. You will be suprised at your stock X's ability.

info

yes it is 4x4 and it has 80-90k miles so the engine is in good shape and has been taken care of. i still havn't gotten the pic's on here yet maby not till sat I am working two jobs so im booked till then.

thanks i will have to look around Iappreciate it

I can roll any kind of stock vehicle on the market and I have seen most them rolled (i'm a cop). The explorers just got a bad rap, somebody had to be blamed. But the truth is they are pretty hard to roll unless your driving like a idiot and then panic when something goes wrong.

I would much rather be in a explorer during a accident, roll over or other, than most passenger vehicles. And with a little modification and wider tires I think the explorers are fantastic on and off highways.

PS: I saw a H2 rooled on a exit ramp. The driver stated he driving 65 when he tried to make the curve on the ramp and the next thing he knew, he was on his side and part of the roof.

Parts are fairly cheap and very plentifull. Check local salvage yards for those rolled X's or ebay. I've had a blast with mine.

KEEP YOUR EXPLORER

Welcome to the site! Explorers got a bad reputation due to the old Firestone recall....When in fact they are very controllable if handled carefully...A member here lost his whole WHEEL and still kept it under control:D

I'm going to have to say that I disagree with this statement.
I actually knew what I was getting when I bought my explorer, I owned a truck before I got it. It lasted me two weeks. I was driving the speed limit when I hit a patch of loose gravel , lost control and rolled it. It doesn't matter how great of a driver you are, it can happen to anyone.

Take a poll. Out of the 20,000 plus registered X owners I bet the percentage of roll overs is less than 1%.

Why would you lose control just cause of some gravel. I'd have to say it sounds like an operator error?

ok I have to state my opinion here i own a 94 xlt it has 127K+ and i drive a bit crazy ill admit to that i have done some manuvers with my x that no person in there right mind would try( i admit i am that guy) i have pulled a 90 degree turn at 35 on blacktop, i have run my truck at 75 on nyc streets (at night 3:30am) no one around to hurt but me , i have had all four tires off the ground through one intersection i have spun it out going around a turn (wet pavement) i have driven sideways for about 30 ft car was sideways just moving, just the other day this elderly woman was wondering the HIGHWAY i was doing about 65 and had to swerve to miss her tires screatched but it kept stable (called 911 for the woman cause if they didnt show up she was gunna die) so i admit i do very stupid things and i know i shouldnt but im always pushing my truck to find its limits and know how it will respond to diffrent situations and i never thought it was going to flip always felt very controlled ,and as far as those blow outs i blame it not only on firestone but the drivers of the x's cause any good driver would pay attention to there tire conditon my dad owned the car since new then gave it to me a few years back he saw the firestones didnt look like they were holding up well so he changed them at 30k so its alot to do with the driver , but the truck is very stable anyway

Good information but very unreadable. I'd recomend taking a grammer class and try including periods from time to time. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
