Hello,
Just got an email from Explorer Express saying there is a supercharger coming out towards the end of July for the 4.0L SOHC. However, according to them, they don't recommend headers with the supercharger. It seems that with headers added, they are seeing a "...flat spot on initial acceleration and at low speeds". Possibly due to a loss of backpressure (is what I'm thinking). I was going to buy headers as soon as they became available, but now I will wait to see what the final results are going to be with the superharger and header combo.

Just thought I'd let you guys know...
Aris

What kind of supercharger is it? roots/lyshom or centrifugal?

regardless, exhaust helps a forced induction motor period. The faster you can remove the exhaust gas the more hp you'll make.

Ask them what they believe that headers cause the flat spot.

Actually I believe you lose torque not horsepower. It is important, especially for trucks to maintain backpressure to keep your low end torque.

Zensius..you have the right idea. You would experience the lack of "ooomph" at low speeds and initial acceleration with the loss of backpressure..

I didn't notice any loos of low end when my headers were installed. Dead Link Removed

Another question(s) to ask them is "is the flat spot still higher in the torque/hp curve over stock after the supercharger is installed? What headers did they use with the supercharger and did they try any others?

Be awear though, the installation of a blower will void the warranty of most headers since they may not have been designed to handle the higher heat generated by the blower. My JBA's aren't covered if I install a blower on my OHV motor. Some header kits come with a set of headers.

dont let them feed you that bs. the only time you will have a problem is if you have a way to big exaust for the size of your engine. if i where you i would put 4.10 gears, mass air , K&N, t-body, t-stat, supercharger, superchip, headers, and exaust. that is the right way to go.
