If it's a rotten-egg smell it's probably the cats. If not, it is probably something to do with the transmission. I know you said it only happens on the highway, but are you sure it doesn't happen if you floor it in the city? If it does I have a few other suggestions.

What exactly does it smell like?

it is close to the smell of rotten eggs but i have smelled that befor on another car and this isn't the same. yes it does sometimes happen in the city when you floor it. the smell is very strong. i figured that the flowmaster place would tell me if the cats were bad?

Then it's probably not the tranny. It's most likely either the cats or you're running really rich, which shouldn't happen on a stock truck.

ok thanks i have to drop it off tonight for stablizer links and i'll have the guy check for the. i remember last week my brother wanted to hear the exhaust and when i was revvvvvving the engine he said that it smelled real bad and that was in park. i just had the O2 sensor replaced does that matter no lights come on?
thanks
for everything

I wonder if is just the new exhaust "burning off" still?

After I installed a Flowmaster Force II cat-back system with the Delta-50 suv muffler I noticed that smell until after a 350 mile trip. The coatings had to burn off. If that is the only problem (ie: no loss of power/mpg...) I'd wait until you drive about 500 miles. If you don't drive at highway speeds often, it will take longer to burn away all the coatings. I think you'll be fine.
:chug:

Well, he said he installed the catback a few weeks ago. The smell should have burned off by now.

He's gotta take it out on the highway for a while where it'll really heat up...if he doesn;t drive much or if it doesn;t get really hot, then it would take longer to burn off

thanks for everything. but i have done way over 500 miles and yes 90% of it is on the highway. i just don't know what to do
thanks

Does it smell in the interior of the vehicle or only outside? As long as there are no check engine lights and your still getting good gas milage I would just forget about it unless it is coming into the vehicle. Then that is a different issue.

yes it does and it stinks. but it doesn't come in all the time. i had in at the shop today and the guy said that it's something that i have to live with because i put the exhaust on 3" flowmaster. but the smell was there before i put that on ????????????????????
