so it's night and i'm walking out to my X and i walk behind it and notice that the top pad on my bumper is up a little on the edge. i see this all the time on X's, just needs some glue or something. anyway, i slightly push down on the pad and my interior lights go on. what's up with that? i tried doing it again and nothing. i even tried shaking it a little...nothing. i only lightly pushed down on the pad and they came on...why?

Don't ask Section directly for advise... he'll look for something to make fun of you of... ;) :D

The reason the top pad on the bumper is slight lifted is because your bumper isn't straight anymore. Probably took one too many hits on the back from parking in and out of spots.

Your lighting problem might be just a coincidence. There is no connection between your bumper and your interior lights.

no i think it's just the glue. i see explorers all time like that. i just push it down an ich and it's fine. my bumper is in perfect condition, no bumps.

Did you bump your remote or a door handle?

nope, i usually just use the keypad. i appenned to notice the lip up a little on the bumper and slightly pushed it down. not even hard enought to shake the X. thank god a guy i worked with saw me do it so nobody thinks i'm nuts. i looked at him and i said''did you see that''? he said''yep''. i was like, ''man i didn't realize my X was this sensitive.'' but according to you guys it shouldn't be. i'm stumped.

What you did was trigger the self detonation relay. In 30 days, your truck will explode.

Hartman is serious. I did the same thing to mine. Blew the hatch right off!

Does anyone know if the dome light will come on if you try and turn the hatch handle like it does when you lift a door handle? I'd try it but as you can see I'm not exactly all together right now.

And X-factor.. you didn't get my apology card in the mail? I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry. :)

i just tested the hatch handle in the lock position and the light did not come on like the door handles.

and section, what are you doing, the hatch swap?

Don't quite yet. But I wish. My hatch won't open so everytime I want to 'open' it I have to take it all the way off. So obviously I try not to open it too often. But I'll hopefully have my 98+ hatch on within the next couple weeks! :D

Probaly you didnt have a door closed all the way and when you pushed the bumper a bit...it coulda moved the door....hence...the door ajar switch closed its circuit for the interior lights to come on....or....perhaps there was a gust of wind that just so happened to come by the same time you touched your X....or....you got an idea and the lights came on just like in the cartoons...("could this be true? animation reality???") hehehe....or....your X had an idea and the lights came on...perhaps the idea was to hit you with its hatch door like a horse....hehehe....so ya see, it coulda been a lot of things...

i just don't want this to lead to something else. like lights staying on all the time or alarms tripping. that would suck.

I know my hatch is sensitive when it comes to the light sensor. You have to slam it hard to make the lights go out. If you gently push it down, they stay on.

BTW: Your bumper top plastic is held on with molded clips made into the plastic piece, there is no glue. Often times, these clips break.

thanks robb, i am getting it painted soon and i was just gonna have the guy glue it down or whatever it takes to keep it in place. i'm sure he'll know what to do, it's his job.
