When i select my 96 xlt in crutchfield, it bring up 5x7s and 6x8s as fitting front and back. I hear that the stock size is 5.5x7.5, sooo what size do I need to buy? Also, can anyone recommend a decent inexpensive set of speakers to me? I just want to get rid of the stock speakers that buzz when i crank the radio up more than a quarter of the way, not so worried about it sounding utterly perfect. Also, will the stock amp be sufficient to run aftermarket speakers or do I need to run an aftermarket amp too? Thanks

5x7 = 6x8
they're basically the same thing so whichever you prefer

+1 on kelly's comment. you can use either one.

kicker ks series are pretty good or get some infinity references. they range from 50-60 a pair. pioneers are decent and will do the job also. there's lots of brands try not to go retail its more expensive.

+1 again, though sometimes the mounting holes on some vehicles do not line up exactly on a 6X8. IIRC, Explorers do not suffer from this problem. The also tend to have plenty of depth, so pick your speakers and run with it!

I have four Pioneer 4-way speakers with a pioneer head unit. I love em! been cranking hard and loud for ...4 years now? wow. totally recommend them
