are 01 sport trac head units a direct swap with an aftermarket headunit and an add on pigtail, or did ford do something ridiculous like my mach 460 in my mustang where i cant replace it without doing the whole system because they ran it at 2 ohms.

not lookin to go blow the roof off anything, just a nice sound. I dont even know what speakers this thing has. looks like 6" covers but I know ford loves a 6x8/5x7.
Let me know what your running Thanks

no ddin (big screen decks) without dash mods.
should be able to get a single din in there no problem with dash adapter, and a harness adapter.
nothing else should be required, as far as the 2/4/8 ohm speaker thing...

I put in a avic F700bt with slight cutting of the trim.

edit:
speakers are 5x7 or 6x8, I put in 6" components and there's a few threads about nav installs

It should be a direct swap with the harness, unless you have a stock JBL or Mach system, (Then its just running a longer harness), single dins fit with a regular dash kit for an Explorer, and double dins fit with 5 minutes of trimming the inner lip out of the bezel.

The speakers are 5x7's and 6x8's. They used a circular grill though, (I think it looks better than any oval grill)

thanks I suspected 5x7 6x8. I knew it would be a ddin or a adapter, just wasnt sure about amps and ohms. Anyone who had a mach 460 or 1000, knows you cant just add a speaker, it wont work.

thanks much

Here's a good double-din install thread.

I'm running the Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD in mine, and you're right on the money with the 5x7/6x8's. I installed the Polk 570's and have been pleased with them. The stock speakers are 6x8's, but they use the same mounting holes and 5x7/6x8's are interchangeable. I was surprised the whole door panel had to be taken off to change the speakers though, I would have figured they would make it so you could just pop the speaker covering grille off and access the speakers for removal.

I'd just check to see if you have the subwoofer/amp combo and 6-disc changer that some have installed in the xlt's and adrenalin's, that might pose a problem when swapping in an aftermarket headunit.

Good luck, let us know how everything goes!

so I pulled the rear door panel off to fix the handle and guess what I found.

this thing is dynamated, and already has alpine s series 5x7s, looks like I dont have to replace the rear speakers, they look like 2 ways. Gonna see what is in the front, If thier stock ive got a fresh set of 260w kenwood 3way 5x7s laying around ill just pop them in, now just need to pay $100 for a head unit (as much as the truck itself ;) ) and call it a day.
