i just went under the rear of my car for the first time since getting it used 1 1/2 year ago and i noticted my spare tire does not have the same rims as the rest of the tires - is this supposed to be like this? or did i get ####ed over by the used car dealership?

i'll check my EB later but my sport just came with a standard black rim.

Besides it's a spare, why would you need it to match?

Yea it's a plain black rim.

Heh...at least you guys have full size tires. Because of restriction of space for '95-'97 Explorers, Eddie Bauer models with 16" rims come with a small donut tire. I think the tire size for my spare is 225-45R15 or something...something that's a lot small than my full size primary tires.

I had a full size spare on a black steelie on my Eddie Bauer stock.

Didn't you have a V8 with 15" chrome rims?? The design of the rear end doesn't facilitate a 16" spare until '98 with the new rear design. This is the reason why Ford stuck 15" rims on Eddie Bauer V8's up til '97 model year is because the AWD system does not tolarate a different size spare so that's why they had to put 15" chrome rims and a full-sized spare.

Just be thankful that it is a close to stock size on there.

My wife's Cherokee has a REAL doughnut stuck in the back. What a POS!

Good bit of info!! Never thought of that!

Steelie on the spare here too.:( And I swear to god it does nothing but rust. Paint with rustolium, rusts, sandblast, paint again, rust, I've given up!!

!6" black steel wheel.

I have my spare 33" tire mounted on my spare rim right now :D

we're supposed to get SPARES?

yea i hear that Todd. i looked under there and its so damn rusted im afraid its gonna just fall off while im driving....or worse i'm gonna need it one day and im gonna tighten the lugnuts and the wheels just gonna fall off the axle :(

i don't got a steel rim spare, mine matches my other rims...:D ...thats mainly because my mom took out like 3 deer with the old x so we kept the best rim and used it as our spare. It'll never rust...and thats what i like. We sometimes rotate it amoung the others. I love having the spare tire maching the others. Can't even tell if i have a flat...:D

no, I had the SOHC.

Hmmm...that's weird. One of my friend's dad has a '97 4x4 and his had the donut spare and not the full size. I guess you got lucky.

Lucky guys.. My spare fell out of the bottom a long time ago. Where? no idea.. lol

I had a '93 EB with the steel spare. Despite the rust, it looks better than the tri-spoke spare that I have now which is completely rusted.

Would spraying it with some undercoating work?

Mine fell off awhile back after i hit the ditch,
and i just put it back on yesterday,

i hope it stays on

but its just a regular steel rim and is starting to rust a bit, i'll probably take it off sometime soon and paint it up good

I do not know why the 97's came with such a small spare. I have a full size 31x11.5 on my stock spare rim in the original location under the truck. It tucks up there nicely even fully inflated, even with my hitch.
