I read the "how to change spark plugs on a 4.0L sohc". It says the easiest way to get to the rear pass spark plug is to take the wheel well off. So do I take the plastic, and the tire off? and when I take it off is it right there in my face or do I have to search around for the plug? Thanks.

Just remove the lower half of the 'flexible' rubber splash guard. It runs between the frame rail and the rigid plastic fender liner. You'll be able to see the wires, but still won't have a direct line of sight on the plug. It's easier to work in there with the wheel off, but some here have done it with the wheel in place. The choice is yours.

Good luck! I did mine 57k ago... I was hoping to sell the truck before I did them again, but it may need them again sooner than I realized!

gijoe is right. I did mine on my 4.0 SOHC with the wheel on (gives you something to rest on) and just had it turned.

What you do need though are some nice extensions for the ratchet and a swivel. I used a 10' with a normal swivel and got them off pretty easy after cursing and chewing the hell out of my hands. By the way, GLOVES will help! lol don't learn the hard way. Just go by feel and you will have them out in no time.

But doing them yourself is a great idea and worth the pain. Six double platinum plugs cost about $20 and the shop would have charged around $240 to do it...so you're going to save atleast 200 bucks.

i did mine like 5k ago and i just turned the wheel all the way to the left and it worked i fit in the wheel well perfectly

Just did mine last night. The hardest one for me was the middle plug on the passenger side. I actually got to the rear plug from underneath the truck. There's a nice gap there to stick your hand up into.
