Sparkplug wires will not lock in coil socket

I purchased Denso sparkplug wires and coil for my 1996 Ford Explorer 6 cylinder 4.0 liter. 199,950 miles. cannot get the wires to stay in the coil. The holding clips on the plug wires will no latch onto the coil terminals. I cannot press the plug wires into the coil far enough to hold. This is not a difficult task, I have pressed down on the wire terminal as hard as I can. I am pressing straight down and turned the wire terminals a little. I applied electrical grease to the rubber sealing ring. I have never had this problem before and I don't know how to proceed. Can you help me?

Mine are close to this, I have to toy with them to get them to grab/lock , tell parts store they are not working out on your vehicle and return for a different brand.

Seems to be common. Had a fight with every single one of the eight caps of the Motorcraft-branded set for my 5.0L. I won, but just barely.

What did you do to win the fight. I have tried every thing I can think of to get a round peg into a round hole, should be a breeze.

Just perseverance, if memory serves. Don't pack too much grease around the center electrode - there is no way for it to be squeezed out as you are pushing it in.
