I am in the market for new speakers and a amp to drive them for my 2004 xlt.
I have about $1000 bucks but would not like to spend to every penny, but i will if its worth it.

I listen to pretty much every genre probably with more of an emphasis on hip-hop. While i do like the boom boom I also hate hearing other cars that have so much bass that you can't hear what the words are. I have 2 subs that I haven't installed yet so that part is covered.

So I really want good clarity so I can hear the highs and mids along with the bass. I would love some recommendations from you gentleman.

Also, is sound proofing worth the money and should it be done first?

Thanks guys.

i buy nothing but JL Audio.. best Ive ever heard

Sound proofing is nice but expensive if you do it right. I personally used a little bit of liquid nails in my rear hatch to avoid the awful buzzing produced by the subs. If your budget is 1000 bucks, true sound deadening might be out of the question. I would look on crutchfield.com and see what you can afford. If I were you I would start with a good head unit and component speakers and a good sub amp.

Sound deadener in your doors is an absolute must and contrary to popular belief it won't cost a fortune.

Contact them and they'll take good care or you.

What do you want to do? All 4 doors? I have a set of mids in the front doors and tweets on the dash. I don't miss not having any rear fill at all. It's really up to you though.

Do you want to do separate mids and tweets or just a coax?

For now I'll assume just the front doors. It would help to know what the subs are that you have and if you have an amp for them. The front power is going to have to balance out with the bass or it won't sound very good at all.

Great set of components. And yes they fit. You can either make a baffle or buy one. I made mine out of a plastic cutting board from Walmart. If not you can buy an adapter here.

Fantastic amp. If you want to do all 4 doors then get two sets of the ID and get this amp.

If you need wiring you can get real good quality here without going broke.

I wanted to do all 4 doors. Can you tell the difference if you only put speakers in the front doors and none in the rear?

For subs I have 2 jl audio 10w6's in a box. I am currently looking for an amp to drive the subs.

Id like to separate the mids and tweets to get the soundstage higher up.

Oh...Didn't realize you were the guy from the other thread. I can tell you why most people use rear fill and then I'll tell you why i don't have rears and don't miss them one bit.

A typical person that wants rear fill is automatically thinking I must need speakers in the back to keep up with my 1000 watts of bass. And they think that more is automatically better.

My reasons for not using rear fill. If you get yourself a good set of components in the front you can cross them over fairly low. Right around 80 hz and down the human brain gets dumb as far as localizing a sound source.

A few months ago I had a coworker sit in my truck and I played something for him. as soon as the music started he spun around in his seat lokking in the back and then right back at my door panels. He did the same thing again and motioned for me to turn down the volume. He asked...,.How is all that sound coming from just the speakers up front....there can't be a sub because I can't see one. He was really puzzled. You can't see my sub from the front seat. it's just out of view from our vantage point.

So crossing my mids below 80 hz pulls all that bass to the front giving you the illusion that the mids are playing all the way down to sub range. If you would run comps in the front and back doors you would defeat the whole purpose and pull that bass behind you.

My other line of thinking is and has always been quality over quantity. If you were going to buy two sets of comps at a price of $400 you would be much better off getting one really good set and use the rest of the money you saved on other things like making sure they have the right power.

I am running the setup in my sig active through my Eclipse hu. My tweets are seeing about 50 watts,My mids about 200 watts and my sub about 650. It plays so loud and clear that most people are in shock when they hear it.

Decide what goals you have and we can take it from there.
