Well im hoping someone on here can help me i have a 95 ford explorer an when i was driving the other day my check engine light came on then the o/d off light flashed then stayed on well i was about a mile from home an it wouldnt shift out of second so i was told the sensor was bad i changed it an now it wonnt do jack it an still shows o/d off iv tryed 2dif kinds heres the part numbers iv tryed from advance s8058p an s8058 all iit does is make a grind noise is there a trick to this any help will be great thanks

I did a little research and the O/D off light usually indicates an internal transmission problem. Generally a solenoid in the transmission. The check engine light coming on at the same time is likely a coincedence indicating another problem from what I could find on-line.

I think you need to get a code reader that can read Ford transmission codes. Most over the counter consumer readers can't read tranny codes.

You could cross your fingers and disconnect the battery negative terminal for 20 minutes to clear the codes and see if the problem is gone. But your mention of the grinding noise tells me you've almost certainly got internal transmission problems.
