Ok guys, i have searched, and read, and read a lot of the threads about changing the speedo gear, and im sorry but i just can't figure out which one i need. Im hoping someone has the same setup as me and could tell me what gear they used, because seriouly, i am so confused! This is whats going on.Im riding on 33 12.50 all terrains, with a 3.27 gear ratio. I went to the junkyard, and came home with 3.73 limited slip. I believe i have the speedo gear from that truck, it is a 19 tooth gear, i say believe because the t-case was in the trunk so i pulled the gear. so this weekend im going to swap axle housings' I have everything ready for the front and rearend swaps, especially the amsoil severe gear! But I don't have the speedo gear, i was under the impression that i need to go lower to a 17 tooth gear, but i just read a thread that i need to go higher? Please help me guys, my math is as sharp as sawzall blade after a solid axle swap.

Wow, i was actually going to edit my post to say that i did read the sticky, over and over! Very fast replies. Yes i did read it brooklyn and i just get lost in it. I was actually reading it when you replied to my post;)

So if i am reading things right, i need to add more teeth to the gear, to speed up the speedo? since it is reading slow due to the larger tires?

You add more teeth to the DRIVE gear to speed it up. You add more teeth to the DRIVEN gear to slow it down. Sometimes you need to change both gears. Or, sometimes you have to get an adapter that goes between the gear and the cable. But here's a way that will get you very close. Go to a measured mile and travel at an indicated 60 mph on your car. See how much time it took to travel that mile. When the speedo is accurate, it will take exactly one minute. But you can calculate your speed by the time it took to travel that mile. (if your math skills are limited, you're in trouble...don't you wish you'd paid attention in school now?? :)) What you do is see how far off your speedo is in a percentage. If it's 10% fast, you add 10% to the tooth count of the driven gear. Round to the closest number. Alternatively, there are charts out there that can guide you according to gear size and tire size. Google for them.

Ok i was thinkin, i will try the timed mile, but if i can't find anybody to ride with me(don't want to be messin with a stopwatch and driving at the same time) I could just use a gps and see how off i am, then calculate from there.
