Sport questions

Thanks WiEx. I would normally think so but I've had one dealer tell me in early discussions that they won't really negotiate off of MSRP as they only receive one Sport for every 10 Exs sold. And the general tone from two dealers now is that this is a very limited supply, high demand vehicle so they can afford to tell me to stuff it.

I'd think it would be different if I'm pre-ordering and not buying a car from their inventory.

I would try talking to other dealerships. Dealers give you that "limited supply" lie just so they can try and sell higher then MSRP and make more money. Dealerships are doing that with the Focus ST now as well.

I paid $40 to join the EAA and ordered X Plan at $2650 under MSRP without any problem. I'm at less than $100 over invoice. Unlike the Focus ST, this is not a limited production vehicle.

The Focus ST is actually not a limited production vehicle. Some dealerships claim it is, but it's not. One thing with EAA is you have to wait 60 days after joining before you can get your X plan PIN number. I joined as well to get X plan pricing on the Focus ST I ordered.

MCA will let you retrieve your PIN immediately, but the x plan rules say you must have been a member for 60 days, so if the dealership asks for membership proof the PIN may be denied... some are saying that their dealership didn't request proof, and others are saying their dealership denied them. I think i'll talk to my sales guy before forking over 50$ for an MCA membership though. Wish I had known about it when I ordered my car well over 60 days ago =P

EAA also let me get a PIN immediately. It cost $40 when I joined earlier this year. My dealer let me order with only the PIN and wasn't interested in the proof but might request it whenever the vehicle arrives.

Well that's good to know... that will save me 40$ if I can get my dealership to honor it w/ out proof ;)

I actually haven't tried to get a PIN yet since I'm still waiting for my ST. Does the 60 days just mean you had to have been a member for 60 days, but you can still generate a PIN before 60 days?

According to the X-Plan partner agreement, you must have been a member of the organization for at least 60 days before you become eligible for the X-Plan pricing. You can generate your PIN immediately (according to WiEx), but the dealership can still ask you for your membership card that will have a "member since" date for proof that you are in fact a member, and that you have been for at least 60 days.

From reading online people have mixed results when presenting a PIN and not having been a member for the 60 day period. Some dealers seem to not even check proof, others are denying pricing.

I joined EAA in February and generated a PIN less than one hour later. I was planning to order a Limited in the spring and wanted to make sure that I had 60 days of membership at the time of the order. Then the Sport was announced. I ordered a Sport in early July, and so far have submitted the PIN but not any proof of membership.

I was just assuming I had to wait 60 days to generate a PIN. I joined EAA in July and my ST won't arrive until late October to early November. My salesman didn't ask me for a PIN when he ordered my ST under the X plan. Another way to get PIN numbers is by being a shareholder of Ford. I believe you have to have 100 shares. You can generate 2 PIN's a year being a shareholder.

My salesman didn't ask for the PIN either. But since I had it, I gave it him.

I wish I had known about it too. Let us know what your sales guy says. I started to join MCA too but looking through their forums I found:

22. When do I need to identify myself as a participant?

You are OBLIGATED to identify yourself as a Partner Recognition participant at the time you first visit a dealership. Not providing this information to your salesperson up-front, may jeopordize your ability to obtain a vehicle using the Partner Recognition Program.

Which means since I already ordered, I wouldn't be eligible anyway.

You have ordered, but you haven't been offered any incentives or deals yet right? My dealer wouldn't even talk about a deal on the car until he receives the invoice (after VIN is assigned). That clause is there to allow the dealers to deny x-plan if they made you other offers. The problem that I could see them having is you talk them into giving you more for a trade, or some other financial incentive, and after they agree you spring the X-Plan price on them which would put them at a loss. If you haven't begin price negotiations then it shouldn't be a problem identifying your intention to use X-Plan at this point.

Maybe it depends on the dealer then. My dealer wouldn't order until we dealed. I couldn't get anything lower than MSRP but did get them to increase my trade. I have never ordered a vehicle before and unfortunately didn't come here to get educated first. This has been a learning experience for me. Guess I can take the gamble that I'll private sell my car and it will be another 60 days before the Ex gets in.

You should call your dealership and tell them you qualify for X plan. I don't know how long ago you ordered, but you should buy with the X plan to save yourself some money. If your dealership won't honor X-plan, tell them you will go to another dealership that will. I assume you haven't signed anything yet, but just agreed on the price. You can see what the price of your vehicle is with the X-plan here:

Thanks everyone for all the help. We ordered a limited yesterday. In the end the luxury beat out the sportiness for the wife. Besides I already have the Eco in my truck. Either way you can't go wrong driving a ford.

Good move. As they say, 'Happy wife, happy life'. ;)

Congrats! What color, packages, extras did you order?

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I've been out of town and out of touch for a few days. We ordered the ruby red with the 302A, tow package and 2nd row center console. Can't wait til it gets here.
