Hey guys-

I'm new here to the forum and I thought this would be a good first question since I can't find it anywhere else. The belt on my 05 Trac started squealing about 3 weeks ago. The squealing got louder and faster as I accelerated. It finally started to fade but its still their faintly. The belt itself is in perfect condition. So I WD-40's the pullies and that didn't help. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks a lot guys.

Your belt tensioner may be going bad causing the belt to slip.

Easy fix...the tensioner is about $60 bucks. Make sure its is indeed the tensioner and not something else. I have seen it where the power steering pump is low on fluid and cause that squeel. I would also change the belt, if it is making noise the back side is probably smoothed out. Hope ya get her fixed....I hate it when my X makes noise.

Noises drive me nuts...so I said screw it and bought the whole tensioner assembly today. I'm running into a problem though. HOW DO YOU GET THE BELT ON?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I tried putting the pulley on then the belt and then tried putting the belt on and then setting the pulley. Nothing is working. I can't get leverage anywhere and theres ZERO room to work. Has anyone does this that can give me some pointers?

There is a square hole in it, you just take a 3/8" ratchet stick it in that hole and turn the tensioner

Hey I wanted to thank everyone for the quick responses. So...I installed the tensioner, started her up, and there was no more squealing. But after about 10 minutes of driving the squealing came back and its louder then before. I am beyond frustrated. I don't know what it is now. The belts in perfect condition and the tensioner was installed by a mechanic/friend. What is it now?

Did you change the belt as recommended?
You can run it for a very short time without a belt to see if the noise is there, keep it under 20 seconds. That will eliminate a belt or any of the pulleys.

I didn't change the belt but thats the next order. Its the cheapest as well. Any idea on how much a belt would cost? I was quoted $90 and I was quoted $40. I'm still kinda new to the Sport Trac scene.

40 would be more about the right price, not 90.
