Now at 170k it's not surprising that there are some minor problems...
I've been hearing some less than pleasant squeaks, groans etc at start up in the cooler weather.
I recently replaced all accessory idlers and the tensioner expecting a nice quiet start up.
Unsuccessful. It still squeaks for a couple seconds in the morning.
Next check(s)?

Could be harmonic balancer or timing chains. If the chains, specifically a tensioner that is not holding oil pressure when off for longer periods of time.

Hold the gas pedal to the floor, crank the engine for 3 or so seconds. Then start as normal. See if noise is present. Obviously, do this when the Ex has been sitting over night.
Known as WOT, the Ex will not start but the engine will turn. This procedure will prime the tensioners. If it's the tensioners, after doing the WOT procedure, it should start normally, with out the noise.
