Hi all,
Sometimes in the past my starting sound kind of of, some weird noise from the engine like misfireing or so...
Yesterday I could not start at all. Totally dead except for the click from the relay at the fender. After som tryouts an 20 minutes later it started up again.

Today it died again. This time I could not start it up at all and had to leave the Ex at the grocery's parking lot...

Went back with some tools and started to see whats going wrong. Relay ok, cables seems to be fine and after a tap with the hammer at the starter motor it started up!

I assume my starter motor gone bad and after some search I see that rebuild is not an option.

I found this starter motor that is new, original and fits Ford Scorpio and Sierra. Dunno if these models ever was sold in the US.
Ad says it fits to SIERRA and SCORPIO V6 2,4 2,9 88-90

It looks the same as the one that goes to the explorer 1st gen (1993) but is it the same?

Anyone know a part# for the explorer dito?

Regards

just go to the parts store and buy a new lifetime warranty one....

The thing was that this was fourth of the price of a new one. And the seller claims that it is new.

Get the part from the seller, and go to the manuf web site and see if the part number is the same as your application. You could accomplish the same thing by going to autozone.com and look up a starter for both applications and see if the part # is the same. I suspect they will be different.

I tried to do that. As I understood Ford Sierra or Scorpio is not sold in US and the 1st gen Ex was never sold in my country. Therefore it is hard to cross check..;)
Tried also to call Bosch since I had the US part # of the starter motor ( got it from rockauto's page) . They replied that it was impossible to find out since US part # and European part # did not match. And that was it. Pretty strange if you asking me... Same same but different... But there is big differences in the US market and european. even within the companies.

Anyway, last option was a brand new aftermarket, 1/3 price (approx. $187) of a ford starter, I'll go for that one...

thanks for the suggestions.

Starter problems

Hi!
To me it seems like the coals are worn out in the starter.. it should be inexpensive too replace them.

That is what I was told from a small company here that rebuilds starters.
It was time anyway for this starter to go up the river... It was rusty, and had 13 years on it. The new one did the job great, first startup wnt through with no problems.
