Starting problem! Can anyone help me?

im working on a 1985 Ranger 2.8 v6 5 speed 4wd, when i got this truck you had to roll start it because the starter wouldnt engage the flywheel, well i just put in a new flywheel, new clutch kit, new battery,solenoid, battery cables and starter. Well then i got it to start about 20 times fine as can be, and now nothing! the starter just spins and doesnt turn the motor......any suggestions? please help if you can .....Thanks

is there a shim between the starter and bell housing and you could always check your connections i had this problem the starter would engage but not turn the engine and the problem was the starter switch wire at the starter

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the Ranger section. Have the new starter bench tested. Sometimes they could go bad even when they are new.
