- 2002 Ford Explorer ST
When starting my 2002 Explorer ST v6 I sometimes have to try 2 or 3 times until it actually starts. It turns over and sounds exactly like its going to start right up, it just doesnt start, even when holding the key in the start position for 2 or 3 seconds. Other times it starts right up. This is not a cold weather/warm weather problem because it happens year round. It always starts though, so that's a good thing. Sometimes it will take 1 try and sometimes 4 or 5. I was thinking it might be a fuel pump issue. I've changed oil and oil filter regularly. Air filter, and Fuel filter also changed. I don't think it's my battery either because everything electronic has been working fine. Had this truck since October '07 and it's been good to me. Noticed this problem a year or so ago and noticed a drop in mileage. I went from getting 17-20 average mpg down to 15-16. It's not a huge problem because it always starts, just wanted to try and get it fixed (hopefully its something other than a fuel pump) for when I do try and eventually sell it.
