2000 Explorer Eddie Bauer
I have a 2000 Eddie Bauer and the speed control buttons and the Radio control buttons do not function as well as the horn does not work. Is there a common power feed tot he wheel and is it protected with a fuse or fuseable link?

Could be the clockspring..

Welcome to the forum

Did you check the fuse in the panel?

Steering wheel controls dead

Did you check the fuse in the panel?

There is a horn fuse and its ok but no fuses are visible for the control buttons. Everything on the steering wheel is dead, the horn, the speed control and the radio control buttons.

So did you find the problem? I have the same issue after replacing my heater core and tearing apart the entire dash to get to the heater core.

I just got my 2001 Sport a week ago and I have the same problem as well . No horn and no speed control buttons . If anyone finds out the cause I would love to know . I am new to this forum and hope to learn allot from those that have owned an explorer for awhile . This is my first one .

i'd say clock spring
that's what's wrong with the buttons on my bronco's steering wheel not working

OK I am new here so what is clock spring and why would it make my horn not work either ? :dunno::dunno:

Clockspring is the ribbon that connects all of the steering wheels controls (stereo, climate, cruise, horn) and the airbag, you might want to do a search for clockspring and read through whatever you find, then if you still have a specific question it will be easier for someone to help you

Did you check the larger fuse under the hood as well? The smaller fuses on the side of the dash could be fine and still have a blown fuse under the hood, when mine was blown, I lost horn and cruise. Didn't have radio controls or I would have lost those too I'm sure.

Thank you so much . Do you know what fuse it is ? Where exactly is the clock spring and how hard is it to replace ? Do I need to have a Ford dealer replace the clock spring if that is what it is or is it something I can replace ? I knew the speed control didn't work when I purchased my Explorer Sport 1 week ago but I got it anyway because I was able to talk them down $700 . On the the 13th of October on the way to work I was t-boned in my 1992 S10 Chevy Blazer on the front side passenger side door which totaled it by a dumb ass who ran a red light . I have always liked the Explorer and especially the Sport and only had a few days with limited funds to find a new ride . It is a 2001 with 77,000 miles and looks great inside and out . The only problems so far is the rear wiper , horn and speed control . This is a great site that already has helped me by telling me where to find the 5 digit combination to unlock my door . I haven't researched the problem with the rear wiper not working yet because that is minor but will check it out next .

Sorry- I was out of town for a bit- if you haven't figured it out by now, the large fuse is in the power distribution box under the hood, driver side fender by the firewall... It will be a yellow fuse like this:

The clockspring is under the steering wheel. You can replace it yourself if you have some torx bits to get the wheel off. Don't need a puller- I've bopped them with my hand (alternating the location of bopping on the rear of the wheel) to work them loose and off at the junkyards for years.

Mine turned out to be a fuse also but mine has mini fuses . It was the 15 amp fuse to the horn . Now horn and speed control work fine . :D:D I talked the salesman down $700 because the speed control didn't work . :D:D This is a great web site . Next I have to figure out why the rear wiper doesn't work .

Now you just have to figure out why your circuit was pulling more juice than it was designed for...

Now what about if all the controls (temp, fan, all cruise buttons) work, EXCEPT for the music (♫), volume ( + or -), and Memory (MEM) buttons. This is what my controls look like:

This is on a 2002 Explorer EB
Thanks.

I would probably repost your question/concern in the Gen III forum, you might have some better replies over there... I don't know if the systems are the same from 1995-2001, but someone over there may have had a similar problem and they may not see it over here...

Great idea...did not notice where I was at...lol..thanks.
