I'm putting an aftermarket stereo in my '99 Explorer. I've got a harness adapter, and everything on that is hooked up right. The stock AM/FM/CD stereo had two plugs. One I have figured out (rectangular profile). The other, with a square/cube shape, has only one wire coming into it, which is grey with black stripe. The only hint I can find is that it's a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) wire. Is that right? The below diagram is what I'm basing this on.

Yes. The gray/black is vss. Used for the speed controlled volume feature on the stock radio. It is not normally needed for aftermarket head units.

Cool, thanks. I very much doubt my aftermarket HU can do the speed controlled volume thing, anyway.

that wire is also needed for dvd/navigation combo units. sounds like yours is easy to get to. mine...is not lol :(
