vibration

Check your driveshaft (U-joints), wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rods......Anybody else with thoughts? I do not have much experirence with the X.

i had my tranny replaced about a thousand miles ago and i heard that it it could be the tranny mounts or motor mounts or somethin. also the spark plugs changed and they require some work under the motor

Mine used to as well. It's a combination of alot of things. The engine vibrates at idle because it's out of tune, the brakes vibrate because the rotors are warped and the whole truck vibrates while going down the road either because of the driveline or front end components.

Inspect everything and see what you can find.

vibration

My 2000 xlt also vibrates and its been checked out by everyone. The main muffler shaft rattles at idle, dont know what to do.

How many of you are Sports? The sport has a vibration when accellerating at around 20mph. I have talked to a few techs and they all told me it's normal, mainly because Ford can solve the problem. Not sure how true that is, but mine vibrated when accelerating and was solved accidentally at about 30k when the Ford replaced the pinion shaft bearing. The vibration has to do with the rear end. Check your shaft and u-joints. My X came from the factory without tranny crossmember bolts and it was loose for about 15k until I caught it. Check those as well.

Also, if it vibrates when you're breaking then it may very well be the front end. You said it vibrates when acc and braking. Check your front hubs. Jack up each side and try to rock the wheel back and forth. If it moves then you have some stuff going on there. I would start with the hub first. That is what your wheel bolts to.

Lastly, check to see if your tires are balanced correctly.

Ive got a 96 sport and ive never had a problem with rattling. Now if only i can figure out what that clunking is. I gotta check the ball joints and the tierod ends sometime. It better not be the ball joints cause i just replaced them a few months ago. Im thinking it might also be the shocks.
