I'm at the end of my rope with this one. Please help.
In first, and second gear with moderate to rapid acceleration I get a growl/howl coming somewhere from the middle of the truck forward (if I pump the gas it goes 'whomp, whomp, whomp' - hopefully you get the idea).
I've changed u-joints, pinion seal (which was leaking), changed the fluid in the rear end and checked it out (did all the tests everyone recommends), had the drive shaft balanced and changed the wires, plugs and coil pack which were a long shot but suggested by someone and in rough shape. There is a small amount of vertical/lateral movement in the output shaft from the transmission and though I understand this is normal I'm wondering if this sound could be caused by the bearing going or if it might be a gear growl/howl or something else entirely?
Any help would be great. Thanks.
