Strange Squeal from Driver side front

Out of no where, I was driving back to school and as I hit the brakes and eased up to a stop I heard a wierd squeal and vibration through my brake pedal. This literally came out of nowhere, drove around a bunch the day before and nothing. I am thinking maybe something is stuck between my pad and the rotor? Not sure.

Side note to this. Is it Autozone that offers lifetime brake pads? I have heard that an autoparts store does. Also heard they dont last long but are still a one time purchase.

The AutoZone life time warranty has been good in my case. I have replaced water pumps and CV half shafts on the warranty with no problems.

The thing is they don't expect people to keep the same car for years like I tend to do and the lifetime warranty isn't carried over to a new owner. It sounds good and they do honor it, but I don't they expect most people will ever use it.

Do you think you might have hit an animal or something? maybe something shot up into your brakes?
Pads have a life time warranty against defects, i don't think its a warranty against normal wear.
I don't like alot of house brand brake pads. Allot of them wear funny and throw out allot of dust some even cause alot of heat and warp your rotors. I run bendix semi metallic pads they come with a special compound that gets rid of break in time and never saw any dust on my 20s or my cragars with them.
They allso have a lifetime warranty.

I honestly have no clue what the deal is. Something shooting up in there seems to make sense, since the problem came out of no where. Being down at school I cant really get in there and look at anything.

What type of brake pads would everyone suggest? Prices?

If nothing else this is prompting me to change my brake pads, it has been awhile and they are probably due anyway.

dont mean to hijack, but to clairify. being an autozone employee, brake pads are covered for life, including normal wear. Pensa-yes, they bank of the fact that the average person keeps a car for about 3 or so years. the duralast golds are good, the others kick up a lot of dust. the carbon metallics tend to warp rotors (pads are very hard). ceramics are just ok from there.

Have to report, took a short drive (to play some lacrosse) and back. No squeal that I could notice and no vibration. Looks like it was something kicked up in there. Hopefully, it didnt damage anything.

When I get home for the summer, I will pop the wheels off and check everything out. So, any input on break pads?? I am leaning towards something from autozone due to the lifetime factor. College student=Money's Tight haha

I suggest bendix pads i pay about 44 a set, i think they cost a little more then house brands but they are really good pads.

My dad just put autozone rotors and gold pads on his F-150 and now the rotors warped about 15k down the road

if you go to summit you might wanna look at thier drilled and slotted rotors they are about the same price as regular rotors

Drilled and slotted rotors would be a nice upgrade to consider for sure. I will have to look into that.

Not happy to report that the squeal is back. When I had been driving around lately it was only short trips. I took a longer drive today, and towards the end the squeal came back.

This leads me to believe that it has to do with the brakes when they are warm? No clue. Any help would be great. Please help.

pull off the wheel and look to see
1 how much pad is left
2 if theres any physical damage from something

If theres plenty of pad and no signs of damage grab some brake cleaner and spray it in between the pad and rotor, or theres some anti squeak stuff its ussaly in a little packet its like 99cents

The only problem I am going to have is that I am down at school. I dont know that I am going to be able to get in there and take a look anytime soon. I will just have to keep it to small trips since that dosent seem to elicite the squeal. When I have to make a longer trip (such as going home) I will have to pop the wheel off and take a look at everything.
