Stripped wheel stud!!!

I just recently found out that i have a stripped wheel stud when i was in the process of rotataing my tires. I know i can buy one cheap from my local autoparts store. The real question is do i need to buy a stud remover or can i just cautiously bang it out? It's becoming an older truck and i dont wanna float anymore money into it than i have to!!

Put the old nut on it for a couple of threads before you start beating it.
