Okay, I shortened my current antenna, but putting the ball back on the top was hideous, so I just put a bead of solder and rounded it all off. Right now, I don't like how it looks though. My friend has an 01 Lightning with a rubber-stubby antenna, no more than 15" it looks like. I don't want a billet antenna, just a black rubber stubby-sized that's bendable everywhere and moves with the wind (that's what a stubby antenna is).

Anyone know where I could find one, and the adapter I guess to our Fords?

Thanks mucho..

I made a shorty out of my regular one. Here's what I did: (Somewhat similar to what you did) Cut it with a hackksaw to about 8-10" shorter than original. I can't stand the little ball on the top so that got thrown out with the top part I cut off. So I got a file and rounded off the top. I then sanded it and painted it with black paint and Voila! Shorty anntenna. I also looked for black shorty antennas and the only ones I can find are billet, and you said you didn't want billet. So one option may be to just go to the junkyard and get a few antennas and make your own and see which one you like best.
EDIT: Wait a sec! Think I might have one for you buddy. Go to www.antennax.com, then click ford then explorer, and look at "OEM Whip Replacement Mast." Might just be what looking for.

radioshack, they are under $10

Radioshack hasn't sold car audio equipment for almost 3 years now..

Bingo! Thanks much, might not be the EXACT thing my friend has, but sure as hell looks nice, short, and flexible to me, for $10, can't go wrong. ;)

Thanks again man.

No problem. Make sure to post some pics when you get it on. ;)

I really don't think you want a rubber antenna. I had one on a 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder. After a month, it always looked like I was moving. Bent all the time. Just go too Auto Zone and buy a black whip. That is what I did and it looks great.

Radioshack still sells car stereo equipment, but i dont know about antennas for AM/FM radios

Well, I could check this out before I order one from there. Where do they put these products in the stores so I know where to look? Options are always good. :)

Sweet, me and my friend have been looking for these.

If you are talking about Auto Zone, they are back with the stero's.

Auto Zone didn't have it; the ones around here are managed by fired Ford mechanics it seems like, they know absolutely nothing and are completely useless.

I ordered one from AntennaX a few days ago (actually, Monday), haven't heard a word yet. I did see that they are located in FL - which may actually hold this off till they get back or something, I don't know. We'll see.

I like mine. Its slightly taller than the roof of my truck. If it hits when I go in a parking garage, I know I better be reeeal careful or back off lol

Antenna came in; was just what I wanted. It's just a universal one with different screw things for every make. Was a simple >5min install, and looks tremendous. I'll take some pictures tomorrow before I leave for work, roomate locked me inside the dark garage.

Very impressed and happy with the antenna. And I live up in the mountains sort of, so reception is not too well... compared to my shortened antenna, this thing is awesome!

Marc

No *dramatic* difference, but the same as a stock antenna I'd think, if not better. Definately 10x better than a stock antenna that was cut though...

I'll have to get pictures tonight.. I'm still locked in the garage down the street :(

Sorry, I'm stuck in the garage, only pics I could get...

Looks great man. So why are you stuck in a garage again?

People are parked on the other side, and they were currently passed out at a friend of ours house up until a few hours ago, and they have their keys. I gotta wait till they get home later tonight so I can roll out for class tomorrow. You get the garage.. you get stuck. :( It's a tradeoff.
