I have a 99 xlt Ex with the auto,4H,4L selector and just had the torque converter replaced and trans rebuilt.Got it back and it took 1600 rpms to get it to move, wouldn't catch 2nd gear and occasionally made a grinding noise between 4th and OD.I took it back, guy says faulty torque converter calls me back next day.I drove it for 2 days and now it feels like its stuck in 4H. In a sharp turn the front jerks and jumps just like my B4000 when its in 4wheel.

The front drive shaft is turning so I assume its in 4wheel.I didn't think the cv joints jerked like that as bad as the older setup. When shifting on the fly I can't feel the transfer case ingauge and 4L seems to operate fine.

I've never had a automatic trans or auto 4wheel so if anyone give me a few ideals where to start I'd appreciate it.

if its stuck in 4x4 its the transfer case or switch, not tranny, i believe. i would take it somewhere with low traction, like ice or mud and have someone drvie it so you can see if the front wheels are actually spinning.

if it is stuck in 4x4, ask whoever rebuilt the trans about it, just incase it could be related.

good luck

OK.Thanks I'll try to get it out today and look around.

First, we need to figure out if it's an electrical issue or a mechanical one. Crawl underneath and unplug the 16-pin connector at the t-case. (The lights will blink. Don't worry) See if the binding persists. If it goes away, we have an electrical issue. If it persists, it's a mechanical issue.

Start there and report back.

Good luck!
