Alright, I just bought my superchip from our group buy, and it arrived and I went step by step through the instructions to make sure I installed it properly. Well, its on, and I can tell no difference whatsoever except the speed governer is now at like 108 instead of 100. I feel no added horsepower or any of that, shift points seem the same, and my RPMs are staying the same. Whats going on? I emailed Mike Troyer from superchips, but i'm not sure if i sent it to the right place...is his email

Mtroyer@compuserve.com??

Please help thanks

are you using premium gas?

also, does your explorer have a manual trans?

the biggest gains from chips are in turbo or supercharged auto trans cars. next is the turbo or supercharged manual trans. then a slight increase in naturally aspirated automatic, and almost no difference in naturally aspirated manual trans....

well, dyno sheets on a 98 4.0 sohc show a 22 hp increase and a 35 ft*lb increase. when i have mine in, i notice a huge difference.

Ya everyone else has noticed a big difference, which is why I am a little upset. I also noticed no performance gain with my KKM intake, so i dunno maybe my engine is just weird

did you reset the computer?

Yes, i use premium gas, and ya i reset the computer (if u mean taking off the negative battery cable and that stuff) i cant see why its not working. is that the resetting u are talking about??

Did you clean the connectors good as per the instructions? It says in there that the number one reason a Superchip doesn't work is because the connectors aren't cleaned good enough.

I cleaned it as good as i thought i could. Would it be safe to spray some of that 02 safe carb cleaner in there and use some of the can spray air to dry it, then install it? Maybe that would clean it better. Also, i only cleaned the little part that connects directly to the superchip, that was the only part i need to clean right?

Do you guys know mike troyer's email address??

I have no idea about the carb cleaner. I know that you can use rubbing alcohol though. I'd try cleaning it again. Did you get the instructions from Performance Products that tells you a better way to clean the contacts with a small screwdriver? Also did you clean the contacts on both sides?

I have my chip sitting on the shelf. I'm waiting to run my tank of regular gas low before I install it. I'll let you know how mine goes when I do put it in, which should be next week.

The email address you are looking for is MTroyer@compuserve.com.

What is the site of the performance products cleaning tip? I cleaned top and bottom.

Back to the question .......

Do you wave a manual transmission?

When I put my first Superchip in my '94 4.0L Ranger with apeed manual, I was less than impressed. Like you, the only thing I noticed was my rev-limiter was increased. I even ran my Ranger at the local track with and without the Superchip. I could see no noticeable difference in my times. When I provided Superchips with my time slips, their reply was that the 4.0L Superchip was designed for low RPM torque to assist with towing, not high speed acceleration. They weren't surprised with my track results. It was enough to make me swear I would never buy another thing from them. When I started reading all of the positive messages regarding the Superchip on the SOHC, I decided to sell my Ranger Superchip and apply the money towards my Explorer Superchip. It works much better than the one in my Ranger ever did.

Nope, i have an automatic, i just received a reply from mike troyer, so i'm gonna go try some stuff to get it to work better. he also said it could take 300-500 miles to get it working totaly properly. we'lll see i'll let u guys know

It came with my chip. It was a bunch of papers stapled together with better detailed instructions of the installation. Email me and I'll scan a copy and send it to you.

Mike troyer was very helpful in his responses to my emails and questions. He told me to take off the negative batery cable, turn the lights to "on" and let it sit for 5 min then put back the cable and start the car up, he said that would speed up the process for the superchip to fully kick in since i didnt do the battery disconnect when i first installed it. he also recommended i get a new ignition and spark plugs/wires which were high on my list already for things to get.

I had the same problem super chip tech support couldn't help so I called A local company that installed chips they said to clean both sides of the terminals until they are copper colored I did and it works great now.

Copper

Clean the connectors on both sides until they turn copper. Thats what I did and mine works great. My buddy had 2 take his out and do this in order for it to work properly. His were only silver at first. Use a scotch-rite pad or whatever that stuff used to clean dishes and stuff is. Also a bottle of rubbing alcohol and q-tips. Should work for you.

Well, I bought a chip from Superchips for my '01 Exp. with the SOHC engine and it did nothing. I mean zip! No improvement at all. And yes I did all the right things to install it. Just thought you would like to know that you are not the Lone Ranger with the chip that does nothing.

DIABLO CHIP

Well,
if the superchip sux then send it back and get a DIABLO CHIP, mine made the biggest difference in the world....

Has anyone else tried it with making the connectors copper? I dont want to ruin any part of the ECU, so is this safe? also, if i do that, do i just rub the connector with the pad thing to get it copper, then put rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and rub over it?
