I was wondering which is better, the Superchip or the Diablochip. I want the most torque and horsepower I can get and all I will have performance wise is full cat-back exhaust, cold air, and minor ignition upgrades. I have a 1996 XLT 5.0L 302. Please post advice!

Both of these chips are excellent.

What ignition upgrade do you have?

Well all I've done is Bosch Platinum +4s and I plan on getting Ford Racing 9mm Spark Plug wires but Im not sure if they will work fine on a stock vehicle. It seems like somewhere I read that something else needs to be upgraded in order to use them but Im not sure.

Which chip adds more horsepower and torque alltogether? I mean are they about equal or is there one that has more than the other with enhancements? I thought I read somewhere that the Diablo takes like a second off of your 0-60 time.

I've had a DiabloSport chip for about 2 weeks. I can honestly tell you that Diablo nor any other chip will take off 1 whole second off a 0-60 time. It just can't. At least I couldn't obtain such drastic improvement results from my "own" testing.

So I called Diablo about it; I said, I paid $240 for this chip of yours, and I really can't get any benefits from it. They replied, "the chip can only do so much ... if you did a quarter mile in 15.00 seconds, then with the Diablo, you should be able to do 14.80 seconds."

I read from online sites that Diablo can "increase your 0-60 by 1 second," and also "increase your mpg by up to 4 mpg." Not true. Period.

But hey, if you have the money to buy the chip and use premium gasoline, more power to you.

What did it do for your gas mileage?

Thanks.........

diablo chip for v8

So, Mounty, did the chip make enough difference that you left the chip in or took it out? I have a 97 V8 ASD Mounty and was thinking seriously about this same purchase, but from what you've said, I'm rethinking.

Thanks for posting that 99Mounty. I fell on the bandwagon on a few of the performance upgrades and the chip was one venture that i hadnt tried yet. Now that you posted that i know for a fact that i will NEVER buy one.

.20 seconds on a quarter mile is so small that you would not even come close to feeling the difference.

First of all, don't get me wrong. I'm sure the chip is a very good chip indeed. That is, if you have it custom-tuned; for example, if you have new headers, supercharger, etc... All I have is an intake and an exhaust -- only minor modifications. If you just have an intake, exhaust and other minor mods, then Diablo will send you a basic chip. And a basic chip doesn't do much.

As for gas mileage, the increase is not noticeable. I take notes of how many miles I drive and how many gallons I fill up at each gas station visit. There is no noticeable increase in miles-per-gallon. This is one of the main reasons I returned the chip. I figured, spending more money for premium gasoline is definitely not worth it.

Thanks.

I have to disagree. I have used super chips on my last 2 f150's. One was a 4x4 scab and the othe was a lightning. The one for the lightning was custom tuned but the one for my other f150 was not. Yes there is a huge difference with the chip. Your shifts will be firmer which will make you tranny last longer. The gas mileage did go up cause it is burning the fuel more efficiently. 0-60 times will be better. 1 second, doubt that, but don't forget you are driving a suv. I recommend a chip over basic mods like an intake and exhaust. There are proven gains with a chip. I have never used a diablo so I can't say about those.

Re: Mounty

Mounty you once said in a past post

"I recently installed a DiabloSport chip on my 5.0 Mountaineer. Pretty nice results. "

What results were you talking about? If they were pretty nice why return it?

Also why would you have in your sig that your planing on purchasing a superchager?
When you said yourself that a chip may help a tuned system. Why return it?

Reason why I am bring all this up is because I thought about purchasing one of these chips. Half of my problem is that not many "preformance" mods out for a '02x.
