I need to replace my shocks on my 04 explorer XLT with 70000 miles. I have put new tires on a couple of months ago (P255/70r17). This gave me about an inch and a half. I would like to go taller but no one makes a suspention lift yet for this truck. Does anyone make aftermarket shocks for this truck. Would I be able to get more lift from them with new spring? If so how much higher?

no one makes aftermarket shocks specifically for the 3rd gen explorers, you can get more lift from just a spring but due to half shafts in 3rd gens you cant lift anymore then 2.5-3 inches, or so i heard, also since no company makes lifting springs for this truck the only way you can get them is to call a shop and have them custom made with the right spring rate for your truck, i dont know the website but someone else will chime in here....

yea man im the dude who got the lifted springs... been outa town all week so im sorry for the delay... the site is www.coilsprings.com and u take ur OEM tag off ur existing spring and tell them about it... if u go to the site i suggest getting the number and calling them straight up rather than email, because they are kinda slow in returning emails... but they can make up to a 3 inch "lifted" spring.... the reason i put lifted in quotes is cuz its not really taller, just stronger with thicker coil... u mite lose a little wheel travel and it may be a bit stiffer but i cant really tell and ive loved mine... i put 2 inches in the front... total was about 160 with 20 bux shipping from kansas to louisiana.. heres the result.... i regret not stepping up in tire size though.. could possibly fit 285 but may rub in front and i kno a 265 would fit but i didnt kno back then when i changed them that it wouldnt affect my speedo very much.... pretty dumb of me

I do not have the room you do with my 255s as seen in picture # two. I have about 2in in the front and 2in the back. If I go taller I still would not be able to get a bigger tire on it without cutting the fender and I dont want to do that. Your pic#2 lookes nothing like mine now. Looks like I need to get another truck to play with.

well man thats the result of lifting the front 2 inches.. the rear is stock

The diameter of the tires vs the diameter of the fender is not the same as yours. even if I lift it I would have to cut my fender to put on bigger tires.

oooo i didnt notice u had a 17 inch rim.... mines a 16.. im sure it makes a diff

Fenders bumpers everything is different for one year to the next. The 06 is different from my 04.

yea and i think they changed it up in 04... the 02s and 03s r the same and 04s and 05s r the same... its weird
