Hey, quick one here. I was just reading posts on synthetic oils and stuff and everyones saying how some last over 10,000 miles and what-not..

thats all great and all, but wouldnt you still want to change the oil filter every 3K miles or are there "synthetic oil filters"? To my knowledge the oil filter does the same job no-matter what oils in it,,, so shouldnt that be replaced?

*I use syntec blend and i still change 3K on the dot. 123K miles and counting!

I run full synthetic mobil 1 and change my oil and filter every 3k-4.5k. I would agree even if an oil (synthetic or otherwise) lasted 10K miles there would be a larger amount of crud trapped by the filter. I thought about using a synthetic blend at one point, but quickly realized the blend wasn't 50/50. Most manufatucters only use something like 20% synthetic and 80% regular oil.. I would therefore either use a brand name regular oil or a full synthetic... Just my $0.02....

I use full syn mobil 1 in all of my vehicles. I run about 12,000 mi and change the filter every 3,000 mi. I have a ford van with 325,000mi on it a ford van with 355,000 and my explorer that has 147,000 on it and never had to do any major engine work to any of them.

I will however change my oil in my X more frequently if I am wheeling it alot or something like that.
