Hi guys,

I am getting rid of my Explorer cuz the manual trans is screwed and I don't want to invest in to it. Also, I want something that is easier on gas and more practical... so I bought a commuter car.

But.... I have close to a full tank left in my truck so I want to get it out. So... syphon time it is!

I bought some clear hose from the hardware store, pretty small diameter actually.... but I can't get it down in to the gas tank. I get it pretty far then... it's like it gets stuck on something just before tapping in to the fuel tank. What the hell?

I have tried it numerous times with a few different diameters of hose to no avail. Currently I am attempting this with a super small diameter hose, but still, not matter how I do it and no matter what modifications I make to the end of the hose, it won't go.

Can you syphon gurus out there lend some insights?

Thanks,

-h

Remove the fuel filter engine side line from under the truck. Rig your hose up to the engine side of the filter outlet.

Open the hood and remove the fuel pump relay and jump across the pump side relay sockets with a short piece of wire.

Pump should come on and run the fuel to your contatiner.

I have drained mine with a piece of clear 3/8 ID clear hose. I cut the end at a sharp angle and then folded the point back to round it off a bit. When inserting the hose I stick a funnel in the filler neck to hold the flap open and run the hose in as far as it will go. It stops when it hits the edge of the bung on the fuel tank, but if you then twist/rotate the hose you can get it past that point. You might do better by sticking the hose in the freezer for 20 mins or so to stiffen it. I did mine during the winter, so the hose was already pretty stiff.

The filler pipe goes to a 90 bend inside the tank. You need a soft 1/2" hose to make the bend. (jumping the pump will take forever).

Thanks guys, I will attempt the above mentioned!

I've used my 3/8 ID hose twice now. It's a bit slow, but not that bad. 1/2 ID would work great, but I would think it would be really hard to get it past the lip of the tank bung.

leave it in there.
Pay It Forward, good karma, what have you.

Just curious, how much have you spent on different diameter hoses and how much time have you put into this?
