I found a 4406 manual shift 1998 for $220 with free shipping on ebay so I decided what the hell. I emailed the guy who was selling it and he didn't have any of the shifter parts anymore, so I couldn't get those from him.

Is this the correct shift linkage for my truck? is there anything wrong with the dorman shift linkage?

Also, I was looking at the swap thread, and it lists a u-joint from autozone that is no longer a valid part number. Does anyone have a new part number for one that will work?

That looks right to me.

I used a first gen EX front drive shaft with the double cardan and it just bolted on, no funky u joint.

EDIT...... It bolted on once I got the #627 (I think that's the number) yoke.

That's the upper linkage that connect to the shiver.

You will still need the lower linkage.

That will go from the pictured piece back to the t-case.

Good Luck

Moog 353 is the u joint

so with the moog 353 i can use the expedition and f150 drive shafts?

I couldn't with the stock front axle. They were too long.....

That's for the front , I had to shorten the front a little by pulling it apart at the slip joint and taking about 3/4 in off each side ,

Wait... the stock F150 driveshaft didn't fit as has been previously reported?

I'm about to start my swap too.

Ok, does anyone know the spacing between the holes on the lower shift linkage? I will just make my own, I have a drill press.

I might also make the shifter myself if someone can get me the approximate dimensions... I can just bend some rod with a conduit bender.

Correct, it is too long like I said. See my first post for one that fits with the addition of a yoke.

Or you can shorten the F150 DS but you only get a single ujoint at each end. I will only run a double cardan so the F150 DS was not for me.

In order from the top.

First gen EX
Second Gen EX
F150
Rear Expedition

if anyone wants a d/c front drive shaft, and you are not lifted, i know of one thats not being used. its a rear drive shaft from a 95/96 sport. all the u joints are new, and it is cut to fit. i can ask what he wants for it.

Ok, I remember reading somewhere about upgrading the transmission mounts when you do the 4406 swap but now I can't find any info about this upgrade. What would be good upgraded tranny mounts to get?

Thank you, just ordered the mount. I will weld some plate just like you did.

I often wondered about using an earlier Mustang tranny mount since they were lower and should bolt up to our trannys.

I like this one.

They say they fit a ton of cars but one is 65-73 Mustang which mean c-4, c-6 and maybe fmx, I'm not too familiar with the earlier trannys exept for the c-4 and c-6.

The C-6 in my 79 bronco has a tranny mount that looks to be the same as my 94 Mustang AOD-E.

This tells me that Ford didn't change the bolt pattern or style for the trans bolt on the mounts for decades.

My 4406 came today, one of the small studs next to the shift lever on the t-case is bent, will this be an issue? I can probably bend it back, the shift sensor is also smashed, but i can just solder wires onto it and i think it will still work.

4406 is in, rear driveshaft is in, gas tank is back up. The U-Joint on the front driveshaft I got is so rusted I am having trouble getting it out. It is soaking in pb-blaster over night. I have a few pics of my explorer coming too, as soon as I upload them.

Did you figure out how long that other linkage part needs to be? I think I recall reading 6.5" or so but want to confirm since I will soon be making my own myself too.

I got lazy and bought all the linkage parts, I've been working overtime for a month and have another month of overtime starting monday. Got a nice little break this week and got some work done on my truck.
